Monday Evening Excitement

It’s been a fun Monday today.. After the most blissfully chilled out day that sunday was :) Had a long day at work.. Nearly bit a couple of people’s heads off.. n then just as I leave office.. A container truck drops it’s container right across the main road! it was literally like the truck took off but forgot to take the container with it..

by the time I got there though they’d already got a forklift n all.. n from the scrape marks on the road it was rather apparent the forklift had tried it’s level best to get the container off the road.. and failed! tried feom the left.. tried from the right.. but that didn’t do much to alter the result..

finally this cop had the sense to pull use the forklift n pull this ‘Lotteries Board’ hoarding right out of the pavement! just like that! n down that hoarding did go.. wonder what they’ll have to say about that.. but they’ve got enough money.. they rob enough poor people to cover all of Sri Lanka with such hoardings..

and the bus is flying thru Colombo! yay! they’ve suddenly realized that they got severely delayed cos of the fallen container aand that the road to their bus depot closes at 10, so instead of going their entire route, they’re only going halfway – which quite honestly suits me just perfectly.. that’s where I get off :D

About Taariq Maruzook

Back in 2000, when I was in school, I discovered an interesting loop-hole in a machine on the computer network - I was able to log in to the administrator account and view the teachers' shared drive without the use of a password! Purely out of curiosity, I decided to take a look inside - and what did I find? Our Chemistry O Level mock exam paper! The only hitch was - London O Level Chemistry has 2 papers! This was just one of them! None-the-less, I figured I'd get the paper answered by my tuition teacher and make sure I did equally well in both papers. I was eager to prove that I was good at Chemistry so I memorized my tuition teacher's answers - and I aced the paper! In all my over confidence though, I completely forgot to actually study for the other one! Naturally, I was called in to the Warden's office for questioning. "Taariq.. How did you manage to get 100% for one paper and only 23% for the other?" "I don't know sir.." My prefectship was due that year but as you would imagine, I never got it. I did get it the following year for showing exemplary behaviour during that year, but at what cost? Had I not cheated that Chemistry paper, I would've become a prefect in Grade 11, and given that my competition for Head Boy had left school, that title would have been mine too. Decisions. A few of us are blessed with siblings - others among us are just blessed. I have a brother, 2 years my junior, and as you can imagine, sibling rivalry is rampant! That being said though, he and I get along like a house on fire! Put my dad into the equation as well and we really have a good time. To tell you a little bit more about myself, I'm 24 and have a girlfriend with whom I've been having a long distance relationship for the past 3 years. She's Sri Lankan and I've known her for the past 6 years. I met her and got to know her before she left for Australia for her university education and I asked her out just a few months before she left. I had hell to deal with for that, but that's a different story! "Why'd you have to wait so long!!" Apart from that, I have a passion for photography and am currently saving up for a fully loaded digital SLR. I don't know how long that'll take, but that's my goal. I also enjoy listening to music, blogging and helping people to help themselves get the most out of life. I enjoy people. Whether its talking to them or capturing them on film, its the variety of experiences they bring that I enjoy. Each person, I find, has a story. Each person has something unique you can learn from them. That learning is what makes you a better person in the end. I'm generally quiet by nature and prefer to observe and analyze a situation before making any comments about it - but I make sure my comments are heard. And why am I doing here telling you all this? It was my decision. View all posts by Taariq Maruzook
